Celebrating Our Legacy: Historic Projects by Madden Fabrication

At Madden Fabrication, we believe that every project we undertake is an opportunity to create lasting value and contribute to the heritage of our community. Over the past three decades, we have been privileged to work on a variety of significant projects that have allowed us to showcase our dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and excellence.

Today, we want to take a moment to look back and celebrate some of the historic projects that have defined our journey and shaped our reputation. These projects not only highlight our technical expertise but also our commitment to preserving the rich history and cultural significance of some of Oregon's most iconic landmarks. We are excited to share these stories with you and reflect on the impact we've made together.

Timberline Lodge Project: Lighting Up a Landmark

The Light Up The Lodge project began as a heartfelt gift to Timberline Lodge for its 60th Anniversary, with the commission of floor and table lamps for the lobby and guest rooms. The project gained significant momentum thanks to a fundraising auction and a matching grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust.

In 1999, Madden Fabrication partnered with GKA Lighting to furnish these fixtures for the historic structure. Utilizing CAD design, laser cutting, forging, and expert metalworking, we created lighting fixtures that beautifully complement this beloved landmark. Our contributions can be seen in the Mt. Hood and Mt. Jeff banquet rooms, as well as the guest room hallways, adding a touch of craftsmanship and history to the lodge.

Historic Crater Lake Lodge: Preserving a National Treasure

One of our earliest and most significant projects was the renovation of the historic Crater Lake Lodge. Nestled at the rim of the stunning Crater Lake, this project was a collaboration with Emerick Construction, executed in two phases due to its scale and the limited building season.

Phase 1 focused on the “Great Hall” in the oldest section of the lodge. Severe deterioration necessitated the complete dismantling of the middle section, including the stone walls and the giant stone fireplace. Our team worked meticulously to maintain the 1925 appearance, replacing, and reinforcing existing timbers with structural steel, and constructing new cement foundation walls.

Phase 2 saw the reconstruction of the lodge's wings, adding 71 larger rooms. This comprehensive project, spanning nearly three years, ensured the lodge’s structural stability and historical integrity. Today, the Park Service continues to monitor the erosion behind the lodge to preserve its majestic presence for future generations.

Liberty Theatre: Reviving a Cultural Gem

In 2000, the historic 1925 Liberty Theatre in Astoria, Oregon, underwent an extensive restoration. Madden Fabrication played a crucial role in recreating the marquee canopy that had been lost to weathering and neglect.

George King Associates, Inc. (GKA) designed the new canopy based on old theatre photographs from the Oregon Historical Society. Madden Fabrication constructed parts of a new stainless-steel structure, incorporating lighting, glass roof panels, fiberglass cornice details, a wall-integrated gutter system, and structural wall supports. The corrosion-resistant stainless construction ensures that this beautiful recreation will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Other Notable Projects: Tilikum Crossing Bridge and University of Portland

Beyond these historic projects, Madden Fabrication has also played a significant role in other major projects that have shaped the landscape of Oregon. The Tilikum Crossing Bridge, known as the "Bridge of the People," stands as a testament to our expertise in handling large-scale infrastructure projects. Our work on this bridge contributed to a structure that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Similarly, our contributions to the University of Portland have helped enhance the campus's architectural beauty and functionality. Our work at the university underscores our versatility and commitment to excellence in all environments across Oregon’s communities.

Looking Ahead: Continuing Our Legacy Together

As we celebrate these historic accomplishments, we are reminded of the incredible partnerships and collaborations that have made these projects possible. Each project represents a chapter in our story, a testament to the trust our clients place in us and the passion we bring to our work.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering exceptional quality and innovative solutions in every project we undertake. Our team at Madden Fabrication is excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible, continuing to honor our legacy while forging new paths in the world of fabrication.
